Mumbai International Airport is going to remain closed on November 20 due to 6 hours-long runway maintenance work. A statement was released on Monday, where the airport department said that the scheduled runway closure is designed to comply with global aviation standards and to ensure continued safety and reliability.
It will be a comprehensive annual post-monsoon runway maintenance work. For the maintenance work, both the runways will remain closed from 11AM to 5PM. Mumbai’s Airport is the busiest airport in the entire world, but to ensure safety as is, the strategy of CSMIA is strengthened by post-monsoon maintenance, which is a key component of its continuous operational readiness program.
A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) was released in advance to give airlines and other parties the opportunity to make necessary changes to their workforce and the flight schedules. This proactive communication reduces passenger inconvenience and ensures smooth coordination throughout operations.
The maintenance will consist of thorough inspections, surface repairs, and technical evaluations of the runway, including lighting, signage, and drainage infrastructure. No flights will take off or land at the airport during the maintenance work, as said in the statement. Due to expected disruptions and delays, air passengers entering and exiting the city must verify the rescheduled time of their respective flights.
Busiest Airport:
With over 900 aircraft movements daily, CSMIA is one of the busiest single-runway airports in the world. The airside portion, which covers around 1,033 acres, has a large network of aprons, taxiways, and runways.
Navi Mumbai International Airport:
Now, the Navi Mumbai Airport will soon come into operation as Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the Navi Mumbai International Airport on October 8, 2025. The inauguration has occurred, but commercial activities are anticipated to start at the conclusion of 2025, with a goal of mid-December. It was a long wait, caused by the need to finish certain tasks, such as the terminal approach area, before obtaining security clearance and the Airports Authority of India’s ultimate consent.
