Light to Moderate Rain in Mumbai, IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Multiple Districts in Maharashtra

Since May this year, the west to east coast of India has experienced heavy rains. After the Diwali festival, Cyclone Montha has formed and is about to make landfall in upcoming hours. Mumbai and nearby cities are also experiencing the impact. The city is witnessing heavy clouds and moderate rainfall, especially during the late night hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert warning for light to moderate rain in Mumbai as well as many districts in Maharashatra. On Wednesday, during the morning bulletin, the IMD warned of a light spell of rain in Mumbai city, including Mumbai Suburban, Pune, Nashik, Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Kolhapur, Sangli, Dhule, Jalgaon.

Konkan region and Goa may experience heavy rainfall caused by thunderstorms. Mumbai city, since morning, has witnessed clear air. The city’s AQI has also come to the satisfying range. The haze has reduced, and the visibility is clear. The city’s pollution level is lowering and Mumbaikars are now able to inhale fresh air compared to last week. Gusty winds with speeds of a speed of 30–40 kmph are being reported along the west coast of India. The sudden change in climate is expected to remain for the next 36 hours. More rainfall is expected in coastal regions, including Gujarat and Maharashtra.

According to the IMD, the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 33°C and to drop by 25°C. Mumbaikars to experience scorching during those hours.

La Niña’s effect in Mumbai: As per the international weather forecast, La Niña has returned but might have a weak effect. Currently, La Niña continues in the eastern pacific region. This may impact cities like Mumbai and Delhi. Last month, the central and eastern areas of Maharashtra witnessed large clouds and cloud bursting.
