Indore: 22 Fall Ill After Drinking Contaminated Water
In Madhya Pradesh’s Indore district, 22 residents reported illness after drinking contaminated water. The incident comes just weeks after water-borne diseases led to 23 deaths, with several others hospitalised.
In the latest cases reported from the Mhow area, nine people have been admitted to hospital, while 13 others are being treated at home under medical supervision.
According to authorities, the number of affected people could rise, as more residents in the area have reported similar symptoms.
District Collector Shivam Verma visited the hospital to meet patients and oversee the response, while health teams were deployed in the affected area.
Officials said that from Friday morning, health department teams have been providing immediate medical assistance and are closely monitoring the situation in the affected localities.
Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has taken up the matter after the government constituted a high-level committee to probe the cause of the contaminated drinking water.
However, petitioners told the High Court that the committee was merely an “eyewash”, allegedly aimed at shielding senior officials responsible for the crisis.
The local administration has announced compensation of ₹2 lakh each to the families of 21 affected individuals.
