Indigo is the largest airline in India. Now, bringing its expansion plan into reality as the 1st IndiGo’s 1st airbus, A321XLR, has arrived in Delhi. The introduction of the Airbus A321XLR indicates a change in IndiGo’s strategy for connecting India with more distant global destinations while adhering to its low-cost business strategy, according to the reports.

In a major breakthrough for the aviation sector in the nation, IndiGo announced on Wednesday, January 7, that the first Airbus A321 XLR plane had successfully landed in Delhi.

This airplane is about more than just size. It’s about increasing range as well. IndiGo is establishing the basis for longer non-stop international flights, better onboard experiences and routes that were formerly difficult to run with narrow body planes with the addition of the A321XLR to its fleet.

With three flights per week on both routes, it will operate on the airline’s soon to be non-stop flights from Mumbai to Athens starting January 23, 2026 and from Delhi to Athens starting January 24, 2026.

There are 12 IndiGoStretch seats and 183 economy seats in the dual class arrangement. RECARO chairs are installed in both cabins, providing a comfortable and pleasurable ride on extended journeys, according to an IndiGo press statement.

The Airbus A321XLR is the long range member of the A321 family, intended for longer flights with reduced operational expenses, according to the media reports. It can travel roughly 8,700 kilometers, giving airlines the option of running non-stop foreign flights that previously required larger planes or breaks along the way.
