Finally, Mumbai city embraced its first monsoon of the year after a long wait. Now, IMD has issued an orange alert for many parts of Maharashtra. According to latest reports, Mumbai was pounded by heavy rain all night and the India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for the city, its suburbs and the Palghar area on Wednesday.
The district of Thane has been placed under an orange alert, while the districts of Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg have been placed under a yellow alert, according to media reports.
Moreover, the agency has predicted isolated locations of severe rain in South Madhya Maharashtra’s ghat regions. Thunderstorms, lightning and gale force gusts between 50 and 60 kmph were predicted in Marathwada at isolated locations.
In the interim, the IMD has declared that the Southwest Monsoon will advance further into several sections of Maharashtra and predicted extensive rainfall across various regions of the state over the next week.
Konkan is predicted to have rather widespread to widespread rain from today until June 30, whereas Madhya Maharashtra is expected to get widespread rain today and on June 26-27. Marathwada is predicted to have comparable circumstances beginning today and lasting until June 26.
