Heavy Rains to Intensify in Mumbai; IMD Issues Orange Alert, BMC Warns of High Tide

IMD has issued an orange alert in Mumbai. Since Monday, the city has been experiencing heavy rains. BMC has also issued an alert for high tide and low tide.

Mumbai woke up on Tuesday to regular spells of rain around the city and a cloudy sky. Between Monday morning and Tuesday morning, the suburban areas received an average of 45 mm of precipitation, according to reports.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) raised the severity of its weather alert for the city, forecasting severe rain beginning on Tuesday, July 21. Up to the morning of Wednesday, July 22, the IMD has also issued an orange alert that will last in Mumbai and the surrounding districts of Thane and Raigad.

According to meteorologists, the showers are predicted to become more intense starting on Tuesday, July 21 and there may be strong to very heavy rainfall along with gusty winds moving at 50 to 60 kmph.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reports that at 5:57 am on July 22, the city will experience another high tide with a height of 3.27 meters, while the following low tide is predicted for 11:44 am, reaching 2.53 meters. Residents are recommended to be alert during high tide hours since the IMD predicts heavy rain over the city, which might cause waterlogging in low-lying places.
