Heavy Rain Lashes Delhi-NCR for Second Day, IMD Issues Red Alert

The Delhi-NCR region is experiencing heavy rains for the second day. Many areas of the region faced waterlogging and traffic issues. Now, the IMD has issued a red alert following the heavy rains and thunderstorms.

A red alert for lightning, storms with strong gusts and heavy rain has been issued for the capital by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). According to the IMD’s advisory, the city is expected to experience moderate rain with thunderstorms, lightning and winds of 30-40 kmph in several areas. Several sites anticipate substantial rainfall.

• East Delhi
• New Delhi
• North Delhi
• North East Delhi
• North West Delhi
• Shahdara
• South Delhi
• South East Delhi
• South West Delhi
• West Delhi
• Central Delhi

Due to unfavorable weather conditions, three international flights and a total of 15 flights were diverted from Delhi airport on Monday. Twelve of these were diverted to Jaipur, two to Chandigarh and one to Lucknow.

“Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Uttarakhand during 25th-26th August and during 30th-31st August; East Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh during 25th-26th August; East Uttar Pradesh during 26th-27th August with isolated very heavy rainfall also likely over East Uttar Pradesh on 25th August”, according to IMD’s latest update.
