Gurugram Man Reveals Saving Rs 20,000 on Rent Cost Him 3 Hours of Daily Commute to Office
A video is going viral, where a man explains his cost saving arrangement. He said he saved Rs. 20,000 on rent, but now it has cost him 3 hours of commute from home to office.
After moving further from his office, Ayan Chakravarty posted about his experience on Instagram. He first resided near his workplace when he moved to Gurugram in 2023, but he ultimately decided to relocate because he discovered the rent was high and the home was not that good.
He got quite a big home and saved about Rs. 20,000 on rent each month by relocating further away. But he shortly found that the time he spent travelling was not included in the savings. He mentioned that travelling 60 kilometers daily consumed nearly three hours. He figured out that he was commuting 780 hours a year, which he characterized as nearly a whole month of his life each year, based on five workdays a week and 52 weeks in a year.
The has broken down this. Because of the lengthy commute, he also had to get up and leave the house earlier, which gave him less time for himself and his family. His savings likewise decreased after considering fuel charges. According to him, his regular fuel expenses climbed from approximately Rs. 200 to Rs. 600, increasing his monthly expenditures by nearly Rs. 9,000.
He stated that even before accounting for parking, maintenance and toll expenses, his monthly savings had dropped to Rs. 11,000. In retrospect, he stated that he had believed he was saving Rs. 20,000 each month on rent, but he was actually giving up 32 days of his life annually to save that money.
He said that for certain folks, living further out may still make sense, but they should take into account the entire cost rather than only the rent. He added that although money departs a bank account and time exits a person’s existence and cannot be returned, it is possible for both to do so.
