Rupee Falls 30 Paise to 95.84 Against US Dollar in Early Trade Amid Global Tensions
The rupee declined 30 paise to 95.84 against the US dollar in early trading on Tuesday as a result of rising Brent crude oil prices and increasing Middle East tensions.
According to forex traders, rising dollar demand from oil importers sparked concerns about India’s external balance and inflation after Brent crude reached USD 106 per barrel. The rupee started the day at 95.84 versus the US dollar in the interbank currency market, down 30 paise from its previous closing, reports PTI.

In early trading, the Sensex rose by 233.66 points to 75,022.37 and the Nifty increased by 63.85 points to 23,462.30, as per the reports. According to exchange data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs. 930.90 crore on a net basis on Friday. The rupee had closed at 95.54 versus the dollar on Friday. Monday saw the closure of equity and FX markets due to Ganesh Chaturthi.
The dollar index, which measures the strength of the greenback against a basket of six currencies, was trading at 99.60, up 0.21 percent. Due to rising US-Iran hostilities and tensions regarding disruptions to oil flows via the Strait of Hormuz, Brent crude, the worldwide oil standard, was trading higher by 1.19 percent at 106.94 US dollars per barrel in future trade.
