From RSS to Vice President: Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan’s Journey

Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan, popularly known as CP Radhakrishnan, was elected as the new Vice President of India. He was nominated by the NDA last month.

Born on October 20, 1957, in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, Radhakrishnan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. In his youth, he was an athlete and excelled in table tennis as well as long-distance running, according to the Maharashtra Governor’s website.

Radhakrishnan began his political journey as a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and later served on the State Executive Committee of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh. He went on to become the President of the BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit between 2004 and 2007.

He was first elected to the Lok Sabha from Coimbatore in 1998 and was re-elected in 1999. Over the years, he has held several important positions, including serving as the Governor of Jharkhand for nearly one and a half years and later as the Governor of Maharashtra in July 2023.
