Delhi’s pollution problem has not yet been resolved, but the city’s temperature has fallen significantly over the past few days and on Saturday, the city marked its coldest morning of the season. The IMD has forecast thick fog during the day. The sudden dip came after unusual rains on Friday, which had already reduced temperatures throughout the city and surrounding areas.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the minimum temperature was 4.2 degrees Celsius, which is 2.7 degrees lower than the average for the season. As a result, Delhi experienced the coldest morning of the current winter season since 2024, according to the reports.

The lowest temperature on Friday was 4.6 degrees Celsius. Prior to that, the minimum temperature was 5.7 degrees Celsius on December 1 and the mercury had remained at 5.6 degrees Celsius on December 4 and 5, reported the TOI.

The next few days are expected to bring cold wave conditions to northern and northwestern India, but no extreme ‘cold wave’ is currently anticipated. There is intense fog in the city and the visibility was low.

An active system over the Bay of Bengal is driving heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated regions across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal in southern India on Saturday, as opposed to the fog bound north. The IMD has issued an orange alert for these regions, advising of waterlogging, localized floods and disturbances in everyday activities.
