India’s first cooperative ride hailing Bharat Taxi app has been launched. Now, customers will have an affordable option to take a short or long ride as the fare cost of these cabs is estimated to be 30% lower than the private aggregators, according to the reports.
The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, unveiled Bharat Taxi on Thursday as a cooperative run competitor to Uber, Ola, Rapido and other private enterprises. The new service’s main objective is to create a fairer and more driver centric paradigm in the gig economy.
In contrast to its private rivals, Bharat Taxi’s introductory prices are surge free, in an effort to prevent price increases during busy periods. Despite the possibility that actual prices may fluctuate depending on the market and time, authorities think that the zero commission model may result in savings that could make rides on Bharat Taxi up to 30% less expensive than rides offered by private operators, as the reports suggest.
The service, which was initially launched in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat, is scheduled to be rolled out to every state and union territory in the next two years.
According to the cooperation ministry, Bharat Taxi is the first and largest ride hailing platform in the world that operates on a cooperative basis and it also has the most drivers who own their vehicles.
“Bharat Taxi places a high priority on the social security of sarathis through health insurance, accident insurance, retirement savings and a special driver support mechanism. There are now support centers operating in seven main sites throughout Delhi.” The platform, according to the ministry’s official announcement, provides fast emergency assistance, validated trip data and allows drivers the freedom to work on other platforms without any exclusivity restrictions.
