According to RBI statistics issued on Friday, industry bank credit had a strong growth of 19.2% in June compared to 6.3% during the same time last year, as both big firms and MSMEs showed broad-based expansion. As of June 30, 2026, the industry’s outstanding credit was Rs. 47.72 trillion.

A significant increase in overall bank lending accompanied the increase in industrial lending. As of June 30, non-food bank credit increased by 18.3% YoY, up from 9.3% in the same fortnight last year. The non-food credit balance was Rs. 217.96 trillion.

It published statistics on the sectoral deployment of bank credit for June 2026, gathered from 41 selected scheduled commercial institutions that collectively make up around 95% of the total non-food credit. In comparison to 6.8 percent in the same fortnight of the previous year, advances to agriculture and associated activities showed an annual growth of 16.8 percent.

RBI stated, “Credit to industry registered a strong y-o-y increase of 19.2 percent (6.3 percent in the corresponding fortnight of last year).” RBI stated that the industrial credit growth was extensive, with strong growth recorded in the areas of engineering, food processing, textiles, building, fundamental metals and metal products, petroleum, coal products and nuclear fuels, as well as chemicals and chemical products. Nevertheless, credit expansion for wood and wood products, plastic, rubber and their goods was comparatively low.
