Since yesterday, passengers have been facing issues due to back to back cancellations of IndiGo flights. Many flights got delayed first, then got cancelled. Passengers had to wait for hours and still waiting for a clear solution in this regard. According to the reports, IndiGo faced a shortage of pilots, leading to long hours of chaos. IndiGo is India’s famous and comfortable airline, known for its punctuality and has now received criticism due to multiple cancellations and also faced a decline in its on-time performance. Many believe that the airline will definitely come back to its regular on-time routine.

IndiGo’s on-time performance fell to 8.5%, because around 400 flights had been cancelled. Many passengers in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Pune faced travel disturbances, waiting for many hours, postponing work and attending online meetings at the airport. Some even slept the whole night waiting for the right time to board the flight they were waiting for.

According to statistics posted on the website of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, IndiGo’s operational issue worsened on Friday when its on-time performance at six significant metro airports plummeted to only 8.5%. The precipitous decline has become the most recent flashpoint in a persistent disruption that has persisted for the last four days.

What’s Coming Up?

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has now intervened, mandating that IndiGo provide a comprehensive roadmap outlining pilot recruitment, training schedules, roster changes and safety evaluations. The regulator has also mandated that the airline submit a progress report every fifteen days. IndiGo has told the DGCA that “normalized and stable operations will be fully restored by 10 February 2026.”

Why do Flights get Delayed?

“Minor technology glitches, schedule changes linked to the winter season, adverse weather conditions, increased congestion in the aviation system and the implementation of updated crew rostering rules (FDTL) had a negative compounding impact on our operations in a way that was not feasible to be anticipated,” the airline stated on Wednesday.
