Wicked: For Good was released on November 21, 2025, and it immediately took the movie fanatics by frenzy. The sequel to 2024’s Wicked has succeeded its predecessor by achieving the biggest opening weekend of a Broadway musical adaptation. It shattered and set fresh box office records with a whopping $150 million domestic collection and $226 million worldwide over the weekend. Here’s how the movie is disseminating its magic.

Wicked: For Good Box Office Collection

Directed by Jon M. Chu, Wicked: For Good is indeed a must-watch climax to Elphaba and Glinda’s journey down the Yellow Brick Road. A year ago, Wicked collected $112.5 million, achieving the title of the second-highest opening weekend of the year, following April’s A Minecraft Movie, which ranked with $163 million box office collection. Moreover, it earned $150 million from North American theaters in its first days in theaters and $226 million globally.

According to Paul Dergarabedian, the head of marketplace trends at the box office data company Comscore, Wicked: For Good outpaced Wicked, highlighting the fact that there is rarely a guarantee that sequels of popular movies will perform as expected. On the other hand, Jim Orr, the head of domestic distribution for Universal, stated, “Some films can deliver a false positive when tickets go on sale early, but these results speak for themselves.”

The second installment is Universal’s rendition of Act Two of the musical sensation. Within the first week of its release, it marked the biggest overseas and global opening for a stage musical adaptation. This time, the movie is much darker than the stage show’s fizzy first act. Movie buffs, particularly 71 percent of whom were female, have been charmed by For Good. Undoubtedly, it has taken the crown as the ‘Biggest Global and Domestic Opening’ for a Movie Based on a Broadway Show, actresses Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, filmmaker Jon M. Chu, Producer Marc Platt, and more.
