On Friday, February 6, Veteran Nepali actor Sunil Thapa left for the heavenly abode at the age of 68. Popular through his iconic role as ‘Rate Kaila’ in the film Chino, Sunil Thapa became a household name. Moreover, the phenomenal actor earned recognition for his role in the biographical sports drama Mary Kom, starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas. He essayed the titular character’s coach. Furthermore, he was a renowned figure in Nepali cinema, appearing in more than 300 films.

The veteran actor stepped into Bollywood with Ek Duuje Ke Liye and gradually starred in multiple Hindi, Tamil, and Bhojpuri productions. His recent screen appearance was in Eklo and as ‘David Khuju’ in Family Man 3. Here’s what led to his sad demise. 

Sunil Thapa Breathes His Last at 68, Reason of Death Revealed

Reportedly, Sunil Thapa was undergoing treatment at Norvic Hospital in Thapathali, Kathmandu. Later, his health suddenly deteriorated. Rajendra Bahadur Singh, chairperson of the hospital, stated that the actor was brought to the hospital in an unconscious state, and an ECG conducted at 7:44 am confirmed his death. Doctors suspect cardiac arrest as the cause.

Before Sunil Thapa started acting, he was a photojournalist for JS magazine. Additionally, he worked as a model for fabric brands and played professional football. Thapa was survived by his wife, son, and daughter. His family, who are currently based in Mumbai, are reportedly travelling to Nepal. Official announcement and more details will be disclosed by the family members soon. The audience and actors across the film industry mourn the sad demise of the legendary actor.
