Starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett, “Verity” hit the theatres on Oct. 2. Based on Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel, the film has failed to impress bibliophiles who knew every minute detail of the narrative. Helmed by Michael Showalter, the book-to-screen adaptation was one of the most anticipated films of the year.

Talking about the early reviews, Anne Hathaway is widely praised on social media. Many of them have hailed her top-notch performance, which is a deliciously unhinged highlight of the movie. Here’s what more they have to say.

Verity Twitter Reviews

Verity chronicles the journey of struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh, essayed by Johnson, who arrives at the remote Crawford estate to ghostwrite for renowned author Verity Crawford, portrayed by Hathaway. After discovering disturbing autobiographical notes, Lowen becomes caught between unsettling revelations surrounding Verity’s husband Jeremy, portrayed by Josh Hartnett.

A happy fan stated, “Absolute banger! Such an easy watch and absolutely loved watching it in Dolby Cinema. Last 30 min aythe PEAK!” Another X user wrote, “Having not read the book beforehand, #Verity the film is an okay semi-erotic thriller with a couple of good twists, but feels a little too tame throughout. For me, THE HOUSEMAID did it better: sexier, freakier, more suspenseful. I will definitely be giving the book a read.”

While comparing the book to the screen adaptation, a user on X shared, “As a movie, it works. But as an adaptation? Disastrous. Nothing like the novel. Not even remotely close. Adaptation is understandable, but WHY eliminate the very scenes that gave the novel its adrenaline rush? Everything that made #Verity ‘Verity’ was entirely missing. ⅖” Another the one added, “Verity: This show was more packed then Digger. Mostly up-town females with a lil bit of aunties. Anne Hathaway is creepy as hell, Dakota does what she does best, most of which is censored tho. Verity demands focus, narrative is slightly layered.”

Talking about the box office collection, “Verity” opened at Rs 1.89 crore in India. As the weekend rolls over, the film may escalate its momentum.
