Starring Veer Pahariya in the lead role, “Prem Keetanu” hit the theatres on Oct. 2. However, the Gen Z romance comedy couldn’t survive Ajay Devgn’s “Drishyam: The Conclusion” box office heat. Directed by Apoorv Singh Karki, the film opened poorly with just Rs 50 lakhs. Talking about the reviews, the film garnered mixed reactions from the audience. Many praised the film, highlighting its breezy, fun, sweet, and feel-good narrative, while a few expected more of a humorous touch.

Here’s what the numbers say for the first day of its release.

“Prem Keetanu” features Veer Pahariya as Vishal Thakur and debutant Aafiya Sayed as Suhani Sharma in the lead roles. Vishal is a carefree college graduate from Uttar Pradesh who moves to the Delhi-NCR region in search of a brighter future. As he works toward his dream of studying abroad, he falls for the ambitious and independent Suhani. The supporting cast includes Aparshakti Khurana, Nikhil Vijay, and Rakesh Bedi in key roles.

On the first day of its release, “Prem Keetanu” collected Rs 50 lakhs by running across 1,886 shows with 11 percent occupancy. As of Day 2, 12.22 PM IST, the film has added another Rs 11 lakhs, bringing its total gross collection to Rs 72 lakhs.

Fans and cinephiles opine that the narrative is a fairly predictable remake of the Malayalam hit “Premalu,” with some feeling that it lacks deep emotional impact or plays it too safe within a familiar genre. As the weekend unfolds, the film may gain some momentum at the box office while surviving the dominance of other releases, including “Drishyam: The Conclusion,” “ Verity,” “Don’t Trouble The Trouble,” and “Digger.”
