After 20 years of togetherness, on Sept. 11, actor Suriya and his wife Jyotika rang in their 20th wedding anniversary in the most heart-melting way. The couple renewed their vows at a church in the presence of their children, family, and Suriya’s brother Karthi. In a social media clip by them, they were spotted together in white outfits. In the presence of family and friends, their son, Dev, walked his mother down the aisle, while their daughter, Diya, served as the maid of honor. Suriya and Jyotika titled their 20th celebration video as ‘The Sequel.’ In the caption, Jyotika wrote a short ode to the 20 years of love, marriage, and war she cherished with Suriya. She began by reminiscing about the good old times, “THE SEQUEL – A vow renewal, celebrating our 20 years of love and war. And no, this is not a celebration of a perfect marriage. This is a celebration of imperfections, of adjustments, of understanding, sacrifices, of loving each other selflessly. This is a celebration of “us”. The people we have become for each other.” 

She further emphasized on the renewed vows and wrote, “ A dream which felt far from reality, is now a reality I will spend my entire lifetime dreaming of ! So here are my vows – I vow to be a happy person — because I choose to see only life’s positive side. I vow to celebrate life — because life itself is a gift when the man whom you love, respects you beyond himself. I vow never to complain.”

Additionally, she also mentioned about the privileges, parenthood, and how she would love to cherish their friendship for years to come. “Why should I ? when even something as vast as the sky doesn’t have the privilege of touching the ground! Look around , everything in existence is incomplete. It’s how we choose to fill the gaps. I vow to be thankful – as every morning I wake in the arms of a man who protects me, and for my beautiful children who’ve given my life a meaning. And me, a reason to live. After dating for several years, Suriya and Jyotika tied the knot on Sept. 11, 2006. The duo was first spotted together in 1999’s Poovellam Kettuppar and have signed multiple films together, including Uyirile Kalanthathu (2000), Kaakha Kaakha (2003), Perazhagan (2004), Maayavi (2005) and Sillunu Oru Kaadhal (2006).
