She played the role of grandmother of Peter Parker’s best friend, Ned, in the film.

Born Rivera was born on June 2, 1943, in Iloilo, Philippines, Mary Rivera breathed her last on April 15, 2026. She was survived by her husband, Alejandro; children Carmela, Paul, Edwin, and Angela; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Rivera’s death came after she was placed on life support following a stroke, with a celebration of her life later held on June 6.

A family member also stated to TMZ that Rivera was “extremely proud” of her role in “No Way Home,” and that landing the part was one of her most cherished accomplishments. Following the news of her death, fans and the global audience took to social media to share their tributes. Though Rivera died in April, the news of her sad demise has been shared hot on the heels of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” a direct sequel to “No Way Home,” having the highest-grossing domestic opening weekend of all time.
