No Superstars, Only 63-Year-Old Lead Set the Screen Ablaze, Know the Tamil Comedy Drama That Earned Over Rs 50 Cr

Headlined by Radhika Sarathkumar, comedy drama Thaai Kizhavi has created history by entering the Rs 50 crore club. Produced by star actor Sivakarthikeyan, the film features no superstars, just a 63-year-old lead actor winning the hearts of the audience. Thaai Kizhavi has crossed the massive Rs. 50 crore milestone at the worldwide box office with no formulas. For a small-budget Kollywood film, raking in such a number at the box office is nothing short of a huge accomplishment. 

Released on February 27, 2026, the 2-hour 23-minute Tamil rural drama is bankrolled by Sivakarthikeyan Productions and Passion Studios. Led by Radhikaa Sarathkumar, the film also stars Raichal Rabecca, Athadi Kumaran, Singampuli, and Munishkanth in key roles. Here are more details of the film and its box office numbers.

Sivakarthikeyan Productions and Passion Studios took to X to celebrate the film’s achievement. They announced that the worldwide gross box-office collections had crossed Rs 50 crore within the first ten days, expressing gratitude for the overwhelming response.

After opening with Rs 2.65 crore net on February 27, the film witnessed a sudden jump in its earnings over the weekend. It raked in Rs 5 crore and Rs 6.15 crore on its first Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Surprisingly, during the subsequent weekdays, the movie’s collection didn’t decline below Rs 1.7 crore.

Set against a rural backdrop, the Thaai Kizhavi tells the story of Pavunuthaayi (Radikaa), a septuagenarian moneylender who was once fiercely independent but is now bedridden, and her three sons, who are running from pillar to post to a share of her wealth before she takes her last breath. Since its theatrical debut, comedy drama has received positive reactions from audiences and critics alike. Undoubtedly, word of mouth has helped the film to gain momentum.
