Netflix And MAPPA Unite for Global Anime Expansion, OTT Giant Set to Stream Anime Titles Across 190 Countries

On January 21, 2026, Netflix and Japanese animation studio MAPPA shared exciting news with the audience worldwide. The companies have formalized a strategic partnership to expand global anime production and distribution. The agreement will strengthen the association between the two, across varied stages of anime production. The OTT giant will now exclusively stream new, original MAPPA-produced titles in 190 countries.

Founded in 2011, MAPPA has rapidly cemented its position as one of Japan’s leading animation studios. Renowned for anime like Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man, Dororo, Zombie Land Saga, and the latter half of Attack on Titan, the studio has garnered attention from all.

The partnership between Netflix and MAPPA reflects the OTT giant’s growing reliance on anime as its key driver of viewer engagement. The MAPPA President and CEO, Manabu Ootsuka, views the expanded partnership as a continuation of the studio’s commitment to maintaining independence, both creatively and commercially. Additionally, Kaata Sakamoto, Vice President of Content for Netflix Japan, emphasized the studio’s willingness to take risks in the realm of creativity. 

The global demand for Japanese animation continues to rise, and thus, the partnership between the two is a fruitful collaboration. The companies plan to co-produce multiple anime titles already in progress. They will work closely during story development, production planning, and downstream business areas like merchandising. Anime lovers are excited as this collaboration is expected to be a long-term and mutually beneficial relationship.
