Nana Patekar’s Social Work
VIDEO | Just three days before his untimely passing, Nana Patekar had stood before an audience at a social event in Goa and, with his characteristic style, remarked that everyone has to go someday and “I don’t know whether I will be here tomorrow.” His words now linger, reflecting the humility and depth of an actor whose life and art touched millions. Patekar was addressing a function of Samraat Club International at Dona Paula near Panaji in Goa on October 4, during which he also remembered his friend and former Goa chief minister, late Manohar Parrikar. “We all have to go someday. I don’t know whether I will be here tomorrow. That time comes in the life of everyone. But before that time comes (we have to think, whether), am I able to do what I want to do? Have I made the effort?,” Patekar said. (Full video available on PTI Videos – https://t.co/bIyFWTeOLF) — Press Trust of India (@PTI_News) October 8, 2026
Nana Patekar worked through the Naam Foundation, which he established with actor Makarand Anaspure in 2015. The organisation has worked on water conservation and supported farmers and families affected by drought and farmer suicides in Maharashtra. Moreover, it focused on education, helping farmers, improving rural infrastructure, and addressing water-related problems in villages.
Nana also contributed to drought-hit communities and used his own resources to influence and support people facing hardship. His association with rural Maharashtra grew as he visited areas affected by drought, farmer debt, and suicides and witnessed the impact of the crisis on families closely. He has argued that financial measures alone cannot address the distress faced by farmers and has become the voice of the voiceless.
Reportedly, the actor has donated his entire acting remuneration from the film “Paathshaala” to five charitable organisations. He received a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh with the award, which he donated towards drought relief activities in Maharashtra. Additionally, because of Nana Patekar, the Maharashtra government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Naam Foundation in February this year. It will execute collaborative rural development and welfare projects in Gadchiroli, which include lake rejuvenation, desilting, deepening of streams and rivers, and groundwater recharge.
