On Oct. 8, everyone woke up to the most disheartening news ever with Nana Patekar’s sudden demise. The veteran actor breathed his last at the age of 75 at his Goa residence due to cardiac arrest. His last rites will be performed at his Pune residence at 4 pm. Maharashtra Minister Ashish Shelar announced that the actor will be accorded full state honours, recognising his contribution to Marathi theatre and Hindi and Marathi cinema.

After a career spanning nearly five decades, the actor has left a vacuum across the film fraternity. Many popular celebrities, including Riteish Deshmukh, Akshay Kumar, Jr NTR, Sonu Nigam, and more, have taken to their social media feeds to pay tribute to the award-winning actor. The acclaimed actor passed away at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa. His untimely demise marks the loss of a phenomenal actor whose commanding screen presence and electrifying acting prowess left a mark on Indian cinema. Here’s a look at what the B’town celebrities shared on social media.

Actor Alia Bhatt also mourned Nana Patekar’s death with a heartfelt social media tribute. She wrote,“Farewell, Nana Sir. You’ve made the world laugh, cry, and feel so much more in between. No one like you.” Meanwhile, Kangana Ranaut tweeted, “Such a terrible and tragic news especially because Nana ji looked so fit and healthy. Om Shanti.“

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma wrote on X, “YES, everybody knows nobody is immortal .. But I still can’t believe this can so suddenly happen to a man , as strong as him .. I hate his heart for failing him and I feel like killing GOD for killing the GOD of acting , NANA PATEKAR.” He shared one more most writing, “Goodbye Nana, can’t ever forget what you brought to Ab Tak Chappan , Bhoot and the Attacks of 26/11.” 

Neil Nitin Mukesh mourned the loss of Patekar by writing, ““Deeply saddened by the loss of Nana Patekar Ji. An actor par excellence who carved a niche entirely his own.” Neil also highlighted Patekar’s influence beyond his performances, saying that his legacy included inspiring aspiring actors to develop their own identity. A true legend of Indian cinema. Your legacy will live on sir. Om shanti.” 

Riteish Deshmukh wrote, “I am shocked beyond words. Feels like a truck has hit me. Deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Nana Patekar ji. An actor par excellence, incomparable to anyone, he carved his place in people’s hearts with his own unique style and brand of acting. There wasn’t a role or a character he couldn’t perform. Thank you for your wisdom, your chats with me, the pat on my back, the shared laughter and for enriching me as a person. Rest in glory !!!!” 

Arjun Rampal wrote, “Devastated, shocked and deeply saddened to wake up to this news. Can’t believe it, this is a huge huge loss to the industry and to all of us, especially people who knew @iamnanapatekar sir personally, whose lives he touched. He lived on his terms, acted effortlessly, shared and most importantly cared. You will be missed Sir. Thank you for the beautiful performances and unforgettable memories. Prayers for your journey ahead and deepest condolences to your family. RIP.“

Remembering the legendary actor, Akshay Kumar posted on X, “Really saddened by the news of Nana ji’s passing. He was one of those rare actors who never needed to do too much to make you sit up and watch. That voice, that intensity, that honesty in every performance… he was completely his own. I feel fortunate that we got to work together in Welcome, and then again more recently in Housefull 5. There are so many memories from those sets that I’ll always hold close. Nana ji was truly one of a kind. It’s hard to believe you’re gone. Thank you for all the memories. You will be missed more than words can say.” Casting director Mukesh Chhabra also reacted to the news, describing it as difficult to believe. “I am just shocked. This is unbelievable. Rest in peace, Nana Bhai,” Chhabra wrote.
