Main Vaapas Aaunga Box Office Collection Day 1: Imtiaz Ali’s Romantic Drama Opens Low With Rs 1.38 Cr

Vedang Raina, Sharvari Wagh, and Diljit Dosanjh’s Main Vaapas Aaunga released in theatres on June 12, 2026. Though the romantic drama earned praise and positive reviews from fans and critics, it underperformed at the box office on its opening day. It collected Rs 1.15 crore by running across 2,302 shows with just 11 percent occupancy. As of day 2 at 5 PM IST, the film has minted Rs 79 lakhs, bringing its total to Rs 1.94 crore net and Rs 2.31 crore gross in India. 

Helmed by Imtiaz Ali, the film had an abysmal start due to severe competition at the box office. Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past, Governor, Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, and Heer Sara are locking horns at the ticket window. Here’s a closer look at the box office performance.

On the first day, the romantic drama Main Vaapas Aaunga garnered positive reviews and feedback from fans and critics. Set during the partition era, the drama has made a modest start at the box office. Amid competition from the rest of the releases, the film now looks to the weekend for a stronger performance. 

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the Imtiaz Ali directorial earned a mere Rs 1.15 crore nett in India. Though it didn’t perform as expected on the first day, the director maintains his command over the niche that is his cup of tea. 

Main Vaapas Aaunga narrates the saga of a 95-year-old man who suffers a stroke while desperately trying to rush to Pakistan. His grandson can piece together bits and pieces from a pre-partition past as the old man drifts in and out of recollection, but struggles to find peace in his final days. In a nutshell, it attempts to understand the human impact long after the borders were drawn. Alongside the leads, the film also features Naseeruddin Shah, Danish Pandor, Banita Sandhu, Manish Chaudhari, Rajat Kapoor, and Anjana Sukhani in pivotal roles.
