It is raining compliments for Sanjay Dutt after the splendid box office run of Aditya Dhar’s 2025 blockbuster Dhurandhar and 2026’s Dhurandhar: The Revenge. Undoubtedly, the actor’s calendar is packed with back-to-back releases, including Riteish Deshmukh’s Raja Shivaji, Aakhri Sawaal, with Son Of Sardaar 2, Welcome To The Jungle, KD – The Devil, and The Raja Saab in the making. Just while the audience was soaking in the actor’s phenomenal performance in Dhurandhar: The Revenge, the actor took to his social media feeds to announce the next actioner in his kitty. Sanjay Dutt returns as iconic Ballu in the sequel of 1993’s gritty actioner, Khalnayak Returns.

Decades after the cult classic, the Indian actor is back on the silver screen with a bang. The announcement has revived nostalgia for the Subhash Ghai directorial that defined the then action-crime genre. Here’s a closer look at the freshly dropped posters!

Sanjay Dutt’s Khalnayak Returns to the Silver Screen

It is no news that Sanjay Dutt is sending social media into a frenzy with his extraordinary on-screen performance. The lead actor of the original film has acquired the rights to the 1993 Bollywood blockbuster Khal Nayak alongside producer Aksha Kamboj, with Jio Studios coming on board to present and produce the project. Announcing the sequel, the actor wrote, “Kuch kahaani khatam nahi hoti… woh dobara shuru hoti hai ‘Khalnayak Returns’.

Penned, helmed, and bankrolled by Ghai, 1993’s Khal Nayak starred Sanjay Dutt alongside Madhuri Dixit, Jackie Shroff, Anupam Kher, and Rakhee Gulzar in key roles. The action-crime drama followed the saga of two police officers, Ram and Ganga, as they pursued escaped criminal Ballu. Essayed by Dutt, the role was established as one of Bollywood’s most versatile performers. To refresh your memory, it is the same film that generated substantial controversy and buzz around its charbuster song “Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai” for its lyrics. However, the song became the second-highest-grossing Hindi film of the year.

Now, eagle-eyed fans and movie enthusiasts await more updates about Sanjay Dutt’s Khalnayak Returns, which is scheduled to hit the silver screens soon. The 66-year-old actor thanked Subhash Ghai for allowing him to make “Khalnayak” again. He said, “The journey of ‘Khalnayak’ has been long, and without Subhash ji it wouldn’t have been possible. He is a legend and a man of entertainment. He will be part of this Khal Nayak.”
