The 3 minutes and 10 seconds long trailer kicks off with a scene from the fictional horror film Shaantha, directed by Ayya and starring “Nata Chakravarthi” TK Mahadeva. Set in 1950s Madras, the film delves straight into the emotional and professional ups and downs on the path to stardom. The Malayali superstar plays the role of Chandran, a film star, also called the “King of Acting”. He gains recognition under the guidance of director Ayya, portrayed by renowned Indian actor and film director Samuthirakani.
Things begin to escalate when Rana Daggubati appears as a police inspector. Chandran and Ayya’s bond goes for a toss, while Bhagyashri plays the role of actress Kumari, his potential love interest. Kaantha was originally scheduled for release in September. Due to the clash with Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra, it will be released on November 8. The film is produced under Dulquer’s Wayfarer Films and Daggubati’s Spirit Media production banners.
Dani Sanchez-Lopez’s cinematography captures the vintage aesthetics with a monochrome palette, emphasizing the nostalgic charm. The soundtrack includes songs named “Kanmani Nee,” “Pasi Manase,” and “Rage of Kaantha,” all composed by Jhanu Chanthar. The film is a fictionalized drama inspired by the life of M.K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, the first superstar of Tamil cinema.
