Wednesday comes bearing good news as Sony Pictures Entertainment has unveiled the trailer of the third installment in the “Jumanji” franchise. Titled “Jumanji: Open World,” the film marks the return of Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan. After the global success of 2017’s “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” and 2019’s “Jumanji: The Next Level,” the makers are all geared up for the final chapter in the series. Slated to hit the theatrical screens on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2026, the trailer has sparked significant buzz online.
Here’s what to expect from the much-anticipated film.
The 3-minute-6-second “Jumanji: Open World” trailer stars Spencer, played by Alex Wolff, and friends summoned to Nora’s, where his grandfather (Danny DeVito) gestures over his shoulder to a familiar, glinting bald head that can only signal the return of one Dr. Blackstone, essayed by Dwayne Johnson.
With the introduction of Jack Black’s avatar Oberon and Karen Gillan’s Ruby Roundhoyse and Kevin Hart’s Franklin ‘Mouse’ Finbar, it is quite evident that “Jumanji,” the video game, has invaded the real world, with each of the core four characters stuck in “demo mode.” No sooner did the makers drop the trailer than the glimpse set over 1.4 million views on YouTube.
2017’s “Welcome to the Jungle” and 2019’s “Jumanji: The Next Level,” together grossed over $1.7 billion worldwide. Based on the children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg, the upcoming Jumanji film comes on the heels of the original 1995 film iteration, a classic directed by Joe Johnston and starring Robin Williams, Kirsten Dunst and Bonnie Hunt.
