Ishqnama Trailer OUT: Shehnaaz Gill, Jai Randhawa’s Punjabi Drama Brings a Cross-Border Lovestory Rooted in History

Starring Shehnaaz Gill, Saurabh Sachdeva, and Jai Randhawa in the lead roles, the makers of Ishqnama dropped a captivating glimpse of the film yesterday. The romantic drama is based on the extraordinary true story of Nimma and Nasima, and adapted from the acclaimed book Hind Pak Bordernama. Set against the backdrop of 1981 and 1988 along the India-Pakistan border in Punjab, the film is a pure, heart-melting Punjabi period drama slated to arrive in cinemas across India, Canada and the UK on July 24, 2026.

The film revolves around the romantic relationship between Nimma, a young Sikh poet from Indian Punjab, and Naseema, a Muslim girl from Pakistani Punjab, whose love attempts to survive the wounds of Partition and the political realities that divide their worlds. Helmed by Arvvindr S. Khaira, Ishqnama marks his feature directorial debut after a decade of shaping the visual language of Indian music videos. Shehnaaz Gill, who essays the role of Nasima, shared, “As an actor, playing Naseema feels like a new birth to me.
