Ikkis Release Postponed: Agastya Nanda’s War Drama Moves to THIS Date Amid Dhurandhar’s Buzz and Christmas Clash
Not Christmas, but movie fanatics will need to wait until next year to watch the most anticipated film, Ikkis. Directed by Sriram Raghavan, the war drama was initially scheduled for theatrical release on December 25, 2025. However, on Dec. 17, 2025, the makers Maddock Films announced Jan. 1, 2026, as its new release date. Starring Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson, Agastya Nanda, Dharmendra, and Jaideep Ahlawat, it is a true untold story of India’s youngest Param Vir Chakra awardee, Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal.
Ikkis New Release Date: What’s the Reason Behind the Delay?
This year, Bollywood has witnessed the busiest Christmas box office storm with Dhurandhar, Avatar: Fire and Ash, and Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri creating a frenzy. To avoid the Christmas clash and box-office competition, Ikkis’s release has been shifted to January 2026 for a clearer theatrical window. Written by Sriram Raghavan, Arijit Biswas, and Pooja Ladha Surti, the makers confirmed that the final trailer of the film will be released on Dec. 19, in theatres, adding momentum to the new release plan.
The makers wrote on X, ”This new year, gift yourself courage. Final #Ikkis trailer drops this weekend in theatres. A new chapter unfolds in legendary director Sriram Raghvan’s first war film. The true story of India’s youngest Param Vir Chakra Awardee, Second Lt. Arun Khetarpal. Some heroes die young. Experience courage in cinemas.#Ikkis releasing on 1st January 2026.” It has been speculated that the new release date will ensure better access to prime properties across multiplexes and single screens, stronger visibility, and more chances to build momentum from day one.
More About Ikkis
Set Indo-Pakistan War of 1971, the biographical war drama is special for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it is Dharmendra’s final on-screen appearance, and secondly, it is Agastya Nanda’s theatrical debut, where he plays the role of the real-life hero Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, who was martyred at the age of 21. He was honoured with India’s highest military recognition, the Param Vir Chakra, for his valour and dedication in the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971.
