Ghajini, Lagaan Fame, Pradeep Rawat Passes Away at 74 After Battling Blood Cancer

On Aug 4. 2026, veteran actor Pradeep Rawat, renowned for his roles in “Ghajini,” “Lagaan,” and more, passed away at 74 in Mumbai. For months, the actor was battling blood cancer. As per reports, he breathed his last between 6:00 PM and 6:30 PM. Today, his final rites will be taking place. 

The actor reportedly overcame cancer four years ago. However, a few months ago, it was re-diagnosed, following which he was hospitalized at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital for nearly a month. Later, he was shifted to a cancer hospital in Bhiwandi around 10 days ago for further treatment.

Pradeep Rawat’s health deteriorated after his platelet count dropped significantly. The news of his sad demise was shared by his “Lagaan” co-star Yashpal Sharma, sparking a wave of mourning across the entertainment industry. Tributes from actors, filmmakers, and fans began pouring in over social media. 

Born on Jan 21, 1952, the actor was survived by his wife, Kalyani Rawat, and their son, Vikramaditya Rawat. He became a household name after playing the character of Ashwatthama in BR Chopra’s 1988 television epic “Mahabharat.” Additionally, his role of Deva in Ashutosh Gowariker’s “Lagaan” was also loved by the audience. He later essayed the role of the ruthless antagonist in the Suriya-starrer “Ghajini,” and reprised his role in the 2008 Hindi remake starring Aamir Khan. Throughout his acting career, Pradeep Rawat featured in multiple films across Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, and Malayalam cinema. He was last spotted in the Telugu film “Gaayapadda Simham.”
