Starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj in the lead roles, “Daayra” hit the theatres yesterday. Audiences praised its thought-provoking narrative and mature content. However, the cop thriller opened to a lukewarm box office response. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 1 crore on the first day. As the weekend rolls over, it might gain momentum and escalate its earnings.
For the unversed, “Daayra” locked horns with Kunal Kemmu’s “Vibe” at the box office. Despite receiving a mixed response, the film has surpassed Kareena’s cop drama’s first-day collection.
On day 1, “Daayra” earned Rs 1 crore by running across 2,283 shows, registering a total of 12 percent occupancy. On the second day, as of 12:30 PM IST, the film has added Rs 8 lakhs, bringing its gross collection to Rs 1.29 crore.
The ‘A’-rated film is also striving to succeed at the ticket window amidst the buzz of previously released films, including, Neem Karoli Baba’s biopic, “Hanuman Ansh,” and Pankaj Tripathi’s “Mirzapur: The Movie.”
As the focus of the audience shifts to the weekend, the film might captivate more viewers and amplify its performance. Helmed by Meghna Gulzar, the film also stars Kanwaljit Singh, Achint Kaur, Anuja Sathe, Seema Azmi, Biswapati Sarkar, and more in pivotal roles.
“Daayra” chronicles a tense battle of ethics between two officers who wish to seek justice. After a high-profile incident, Officer Raman Kumar, essayed by Prithviraj, and his team take action against the suspects in a disputed encounter. Meanwhile, another cop, Ajooni Kohli, played by Kareena Kapoor Khan, examines whether the controversial shooting was staged, leading to a deep institutional conflict.
