The world woke up to the most disheartening news. Bonnie Tyler, 80s pop legend and singer of Total Eclipse of the Heart passed away at 75. Tyler’s family and team confirmed her sad demise through a statement, which stated that she died “unexpectedly” on Wednesday evening in a hospital in Portugal due to the “illness that she was being treated for”.Tributes from across the world, including her family and public figures, marked the end of a career defined by global hits.
Bonnie Tyler Breathes Her Last at 75
On Thursday, Bonnie Tyler’s family released a statement which read, “Bonnie’s family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for.” For the unversed, in May, Tyler was rushed to a hospital in Faro, Portugal, for emergency intestinal surgery and placed in an induced coma to aid her recovery.
In 2013, Bonnie Tyler bagged three Grammy nods. Additionally, she also represented Britain at the Eurovision Song Contest, where she came in 19th. In 2022, the singer was honoured as a Member of the Order of the British Empire for her services to music by Queen Elizabeth II, thanks mainly to “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” which has had more than 1 billion streams, boosted by real eclipses in 2017 and 2024.
