BAFTA Winner Boong All Set to Return to Theatres, Celebrates the Big Win After its Global Recognition

The 2024 film Boong is all geared to hit the theatres on March 6, 2026, after its big win at the BAFTA awards.

On March 4, 2026, the makers of Boong announced the re-release of the film after its BAFTA win. The heart-warming drama is the first-ever Indian film to receive a British Academy Film Award honour in the Best Children’s & Family Film category, which makes its theatrical comeback on 6 March 2026 even more special. 

With just three days left before its nationwide theatrical return, the makers took to their social media handles to share the new poster with the caption, “The greatest gift is the one that lasts forever. Watch #Boong, the first Indian film ever to win the BAFTA Award, in cinemas from 6th March. #3DaysToGo.

Manipur Film Boong to Re-Release in Theatres 

Directed and written by Lakshmipriya Devi, Boong was initially released on September 5, 2024. It narrates the heartfelt saga of a young boy who is on a quest to reunite his broken family. Moreover, the film explores the power of love, hope, and resilience. For the unversed, it is a coming-of-age drama that first premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and went on to screen at a number of prestigious international festivals, earning acclaim for its emotional depth and cultural authenticity.  

The win at the 79th BAFTA award sparked widespread praise from audiences, industry figures alike, including a congratulatory note from India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. He who called the achievement “a moment of immense joy” for both Manipur and the nation.
