Directed by Anubhav Sinha, the hard-hitting drama revolves around a sexual assault case while offering a deep insight into the legal process and court hearings.
Despite the modest start, Assi opened to largely excellent reviews and feedback. On the other hand, the all-India occupancy of the film has remained under 10 percent. Roll your eyes over to take a closer look at the box office numbers and occupancy.
Taapsee Panu’s Assi Box Office Collection Day 1
Assi raked in Rs 1 crore on its very first day, marking Taapsee Panu’s tenth biggest opening of her career. The film surpassed the earnings of Saand Ki Aankh, which minted Rs 48 lakh on day 1. The latest social drama may gain momentum over the weekend, surpassing Rs 2 to 3 crore net in India.
On Day 1, the gritty drama registered an occupancy of 3.88 percent in the morning, 7.24 percent in the afternoon, and 6.92 percent in the evening. Surprisingly, the film performed well in Chennai with an occupancy of 20 percent. Reportedly, Assi has crossed the Rs 1 crore mark by raking in Rs 1.2 to 1.5 crore gross across 1,716 shows nationwide.
For the unversed, Assi has clashed with Mrunal Thakur and Siddhant Chaturvedi’s Do Deewane Seher Mein. The title refers to the reported statistic of 80 rape cases being filed daily in India. Meanwhile, the latter offers a slice-of-life romance. Both films, which belong to different genres, are performing closely at the box office. According to estimates from the first day, the romantic drama directed by Ravi Udyawar is in the lead, having earned Rs 1.25 crore on its opening day.
