A 44 year old engineer found that working long hours and dealing with workplace stress took a toll on him. He decided to resign from his work and concentrate on his health after building an investment portfolio worth Rs 6.5 crore.

In a Reddit post titled ‘My FIRE Journey: Walking Away at 44,’ the engineer told his narrative. He described how a shift in priorities, prudent investing and years spent in startups enabled him to quit working far sooner than the majority of individuals. He is married, has an 11 year old child, according to the Reddit user.

He spent most of his professional life working for startups and earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees in engineering from a Top 1 university. I’m married, 44 and have an eleven year old kid, he said. I graduated from a Tier 1 college with both my UG and PG engineering degrees and I have spent almost my whole career working for startups. I even spent some months working without pay because I had faith in the firm, he stated.

His prior position, though, altered his perspective on employment. Despite being recommended to a startup, he claimed the workplace environment proved to be unhealthy.
