On Thursday, the BSE Sensex and Nifty50, the benchmark equity indices in India, plummeted by more than 1 percent. FII selling persisted, the RBI’s policy tightening and repo rate hike and other unfavorable circumstances were all factors in investors’ reactions.
NSE Nifty50 dropped to 22,231 levels as the BSE Sensex fell by more than 1,000 points. The Nifty50 closed at 22,231.80, down 371.25 points or 1.64 percent. At 71,593.24, the BSE Sensex was 1,045.46 points or 1.44 percent lower.
More than Rs. 11 lakh crore was lost from the market capitalization of businesses listed on the BSE as a result of the steep drop. ITC, Adani Ports, IndiGo, Power Grid and Reliance Industries (RIL) were among the biggest losers on the Sensex, with their shares falling as much as 4 percent.
However, the benchmark index was supported by gains of up to 2 percent in Tech Mahindra, HCL Technologies, TCS, Infosys and other IT heavyweights as well as Titan.
The Sensex was trading at 71,654.0, down 984.64 points (1.36 percent) at 1:00 pm on Thursday. The Nifty50 dropped by 1.52 percent to 22,261.05 points, a loss of 344.35 points, as per the reports.
