The government has appointed a new RBI deputy governor and Rohit Jain will be taking charge for the three year term, according to the reports. For a three year term, Rohit Jain has been approved by the Cabinet’s Appointments Committee (ACC) to serve as Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Prior to Jain being chosen for the role, the government interviewed up to four Executive Directors for the position in a selection procedure in April 2026, as per media reports. Last month, T Rabi Sankar, the former Deputy Governor, stepped down and Jain took his place. At the Reserve Bank of India, he works as the Executive Director.

As per the order stating, “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Rohit Jain, Executive Director, Reserve Bank of India, to the post of Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India for a period of three years from the date of joining the post on or after 03.05.2026 or until further orders, whichever is earlier”, as reported by ANI.

The RBI’s Executive Director at the moment is Rohit Jain. He has held various positions at the central bank during his almost thirty years there, according to the reports.
