A new debate has sparked discussion online after a founder says he feels Rs. 2.5 lakh monthly salary is the new 1 lakh in Bengaluru and Mumbai. A shared a tweet which is now going viral.

His comment was made to draw attention to rising inflation and the higher cost of living. Niket Raj Dwivedi, creator of Medial, a professional social networking platform, expressed his opinion on X. He further said that this comment is particularly accurate in cities like Bengaluru and Mumbai. “Specially true in Mumbai and Bangalore,” he wrote.

Many say that the Rs. 1 Lakh salary per month is the strongest one. Nonetheless, others backed his point. “Inflation, lifestyle and a collapsing employment market worked together. Rs. 1L felt wealthy in 2015; Rs. 2.5L feels like survival in 2026,” one user commented.

“A 3BHK in Bellandur, HSR, Koramangala etc. costs almost you 80k-1L in rent only. So now one can calculate. You need 2.5L just to survive,” said another, pointing to Bengaluru’s housing prices. Now, with a changing lifestyle and inflation, many believe that a high income is important and when it comes to comparing ourselves with cities, such debate is going viral on social media day by day. For many, the main concern is the rising housing prices.
