India’s retail inflation has seen a hike. Prices are rising. According to the preliminary Consumer Price Index (CPI) data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation on Tuesday, India’s retail inflation increased from 3.40 percent in March 2026 to 3.48 percent in April 2026 on a month over month basis, according to the ANI.

The CFPI index for April was 104.39, an increase from 104.14 the month before. The Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI) showed that food inflation increased from 3.87% in March to 4.20% year on year in April. The increase was more noticeable in rural areas, with a 4.26 percent increase as opposed to 4.10 percent in urban areas.

In April 2026, the national rate of house price inflation was still relatively modest at 2.15%. Urban house price inflation was 1.96 percent, while rural housing price inflation was 2.65 percent.

Even though the published numbers are rounded to two decimal places, which may lead to slight discrepancies when higher level indices are derived from them, the ministry said that all indices and inflation rates are calculated using actual index values without rounding off.
