US Revises H-1B Visa Fee, Trump Administration Proposes 103,265 US Dollars

The H-1B visa fee had already grabbed attention. Now, the US government’s newly proposed H-1B visa fee revision expects applicants to pay 103,265 US dollars for highly skilled foreign workers.

On Monday, the Federal Register released a proposed regulation from the US Department of Homeland Security that would set a permanent fee of 103,265 USD for H-1B visas. On the same day, the Donald Trump administration unveiled a draft regulation that would establish a record high fee of over 100,000 USD for new H-1B visas for highly skilled foreign workers.

The H-1B program allows American companies to employ foreign workers skilled in certain sectors. The H-1B program allows US employers to hire foreign workers in specialty occupations. It approves an extra 20,000 visas for employees with advanced degrees for three to six years, in addition to the 65,000 visas it issues each year.

The levy was initially imposed by Trump on a temporary basis last year, but a US court later blocked it. Companies in the research, education and technology industries frequently use H-1B visas and this measure significantly raises the price of those visas.
