Unprecedented Snow Disaster in Kamchatka: High Rise Buildings Covered Under Heavy Snowfall
A heavy snowfall caused ordinary life to come to a standstill in Kamchatka, Russia. Many high rise buildings were covered by the heavy snowfall. Numerous low pressure systems that originated in the Sea of Okhotsk have impacted Kamchatka and other far eastern regions of Russia, causing severe winds and unprecedented snowfall.
In response to the first fatality being reported on Thursday, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Mayor Yevgeny Belyayev declared a state of emergency across the city right away so that more resources might be used for snow removal, according to reports by the international media.

As per the reports, meteorologists predicted heavy snowfall, low visibility and wet snow, all of which might result in hazardous ice buildup in certain areas of the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Yelizovsky districts. Temperatures range from 0 to 2 degrees Celsius and easterly winds blow at 25 to 30 meters per second, creating hazardous driving conditions.
The city, however, is compelled to shift to remote work due to a lot of snow on the roadways and as a result, the authorities have closed schools and businesses.
