In the Tame Road area of Oldbury on 9 September, a man was arrested for allegedly raping a Sikh woman in her 20s, who had earlier reported being attacked by two white men.
On Sunday evening, West Midlands Police confirmed the arrest. The suspect, a man in his 30s, is currently in custody on suspicion of rape.
Chief Superintendent Kim Madill of Sandwell Police described the arrest as a “significant development” in the case.
In response to the incident, members of the Sikh community gathered on Sunday outside the Guru Nanak Gurdwara in Smethwick. Dozens attended the peaceful assembly, offering prayers and support for the victim before visiting the location where the alleged attack occurred.
Among those present was local councillor Parbinder Kaur, who told Sky News she was attending “as a woman, a mother, and a grandmother.”
The victim, who is legally entitled to anonymity, shared a statement through the community group Sikh Youth UK.
