On Monday, the record for the warmest day ever in May in the UK was broken when temperatures exceeded 33.5 degrees Celsius, surpassing the previous high of 32.8 degrees Celsius set in May 1944, as per the reports.

The annual May Bank Holiday Monday for the spring season is predicted to be the warmest long weekend in the UK in years, with temperatures expected to keep rising over the next several hours, according to the Meteorological (Met) Office.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has released an amber heat-health warning, noting that those who are 65 or older or have underlying medical issues such as respiratory and cardiovascular illnesses are at higher risk, reported by PTI. All areas of the nation were severely impacted by the increase in mercury levels and the heatwave’s highest temperature was recorded in Heathrow, southwest London.

The weather in London is about to rival that of some of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations, including Paris in France, Athens in Greece, Madrid in Spain and Rome in Italy. The record breaking temperatures in May are about three times more likely to be attributed to climate change than they would have been, according to a climate attribution study published by UK Met Office experts last year, accordung to the reporys.
