According to the Office for National Statistics’ (ONS) most recent estimate, the United Kingdom’s gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 0.5 percent in the second quarter of 2026 (April-June). The most recent growth estimate is 0.1 percent higher than the first estimate of 0.4 percent. This comes after a 0.6 percent increase in GDP during the first quarter (January-March) of 2026.
The ONS announced that GDP in the second quarter was 2.0 percent higher than in the fourth quarter (October–December) of 2024, an upward revision of its previous estimate of 1.9 percent.
Real GDP growth was expected to be 1.2 percent for the full year 2025, a decrease of 0.1 percentage point from the prior estimate. In the second quarter, nominal GDP rose by 0.8 percent, which was in line with the prior projection and 3.8 percent higher than it was in the same quarter of the prior year.
Compared to the same period in 2025, real GDP per capita was 1.2 percent higher and increased by 0.5 percent in Q2 2026. Additionally, during the quarter, household budgets got better. In the second quarter, real household disposable income increased by 1.0 percent per person, recovering from a 0.8 percent drop in the first quarter. The household savings ratio increased by 0.2 percentage points in Q2, reaching 8.8 percent, mostly because non-pension savings increased.
