Thousands of Flights Cancelled Across the UK after Air Traffic Control Glitch, Passengers Stranded

Thousands of flights have been cancelled in the UK due to a massive air traffic control glitch. Many passengers had to wait for long hours to catch their scheduled flight. According to recent reports, over 1,300 flights have been cancelled, affecting major airports including Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham.

Many flights from India were also affected. The National Air Traffic Services’ (NATS) flight processing system was found to have the issue. On Tuesday, 1,300 flights to and from the UK airports were cancelled and another 177 flights scheduled for Wednesday have already been cancelled, most of them at Heathrow, according to FlightRadar24.

KLM, Lufthansa, British Airways and easyJet were among the major airlines whose operations were impacted by the interruption. Passengers travelling through UK airports have been advised to check directly with their airlines for the most up to date flight information and to expect additional delays or cancellations as the backlog is resolved.

The UK Civil Aviation Authority has requested a comprehensive incident report from NATS and is expected to determine whether additional actions are required to enhance the resilience of the nation’s air traffic control system.
