On January 22, 2026, the nominations for the 98th Academy Awards were finally announced. With a total of 24 categories, the list of nominations included a line-up of the most loved actors and films. Whatcaught everyone’s attention was Director Ryan Coogler’s Sinners that broke the all-time Oscar record by bagging 16 nominations across various categories.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences voters nominated the blues-steeped vampire epic with 16 categories, breaking the 14-nomination mark set by “All About Eve,” “Titanic,” and “La La Land.” Whether it is the best picture, best director, best screenplay, or best actor, Sinners have earned their own space in the realm of entertainment and, now of course, the Oscars.

It is indeed a lucky phase for the makers of Sinners as the critically and commercially acclaimed supernatural thriller has become the first movie to be nominated for 16 Academy Awards. Actor Michael B. Jordan is rewarded with his first Oscar nomination for Best Actor. He stars as twin brothers setting up a blues club in 1930s Mississippi, while battling racism and vampires. In a nutshell, it is an ambitious, visually appealing period drama, blending horror, blues music, and historical themes. Here’s the list of 16 nominations the film has managed to get in.
On the other hand, Paul Thomas Anderson’s father-daughter revolutionary tale “One Battle After Another,” followed Sinners with 13 nominations. The grand award ceremony for the 98th Oscars will take place on March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre in Ovation Hollywood.
