NASA Sets April 1 Launch Date for Artemis II Moon Mission
The long-awaited NASA’s Moon Mission is now underway and will soon launch in a few days. The much awaited launch of Artemis 2, the first crewed flyby mission to the Moon in over half a century, might launch as early as April 1, according to an announcement from NASA on Thursday.
NASA’s potent Space Launch System (SLS) rocket, a 322 foot (98 meter) launch vehicle built to transport astronauts outside of Earth orbit, will be used during the mission. The Orion spacecraft, which will transport the four astronauts on a lunar flyby mission, will be launched by the rocket.
Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen are the four astronauts who will embark on a 10 day flyby of the Moon as part of this historic mission.
Right now, the spacecraft and rocket are being prepared for their last launch in Kennedy Space Center’s Vehicle Assembly Building. The rocket will roll back to the launch pad for the last launch preparations after all testing and repairs have been finished.
