A video shared by a foreign woman has raised questions about women’s safety again. She describes how she was touched inappropriately and also broke down in tears.
According to Emma, a foreign backpacker in Southeast Asia, she and a friend were harassed and touched without their consent at the recent Post Malone event in Guwahati. She posted a video of herself attempting to make her way through the audience.
“Do you believe that women are safe in Indian concert venues? Things got very serious very fast during the Post Malone show in Guwahati last night. Within minutes of entering the crowded space, Amina and I were both touched without our permission as two women in the audience”, according to Emma.
Because of what happened, we could no longer enjoy the concert, she said. This is not normal crowd pushing. It is a component of the larger problem of violence against women and the way harassment is minimized in public environments. Regardless of its size, no concert should force women to choose between protecting themselves and having fun, she describes.
“During our time here, we’ve experienced so much warmth, kindness and real hospitality.” She continues by saying that, “Last night we met so many people who were wonderful, polite and happy to share the experience.” The video has received reactions. Many are angry and disappointed by the treatment that those tourists received.
