Chaos and Panic, 7.6 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Northern Japan; Triggers Tsunami Alert

A 7.6 magnitude powerful earthquake struck northern Japan a few hours ago. The tsunami alert has been issued and many citizens have been evacuated till now.

A 7.6 magnitude earthquake hit northern Japan a few hours ago, that is, late on Monday. The intensity of this earthquake was so high that many people felt it, were terrified and were numbed by it. As per the reports, many citizens have been evacuated to a safe place. Till now, 33 citizens have been injured due to the impact. Roads, houses are damaged. Several videos showed shaking chandeliers, cars, work desks, fans and lamps as a result of the impact. Due to the earthquake, it triggered a tsunami of up to 70 centimeters, that is, 28 inches in Pacific coast communities.

Where did the Earthquake hit in Japan?  

The earthquake occurred about 80 kilometers off the northern coast of Honshu, causing minor tsunami waves to hit numerous coastal communities. Kuji port in Iwate, which is located south of Aomori, a 70 cm wave reached there. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, waves in other communities reached 50 cm.

According to the Associated Press, Japan was evaluating the destruction caused by a late night earthquake and tsunami that hit off the coast of Aomori at about 11:15 pm local time.

Megaquake 

The government also released a new prediction in March stating that a megaquake and subsequent tsunami might result in up to 298,000 fatalities and up to 2 trillion USD in damages. Since the earthquake on Monday, officials have increased the warning for this possible megaquake, according to the reports.

The strongest earthquake in Japanese history devastated a large area of the Pacific coastline and resulted in a series of massive tsunamis that killed about 20,000 people. On March 11, 2011, one of the biggest earthquakes in the country struck the northeast when a magnitude 9.0 tremor hit under the sea off the coast of Sendai, a city in the north.
